On March 18, 2022, H.E. Mr. Konstantin Dimitrov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Kingdom of the Netherlands paid a working visit to Leeuwarden, Kingdom of the Netherlands at the invitation of the King’s Commissioner for the Province of Friesland, Mr. Arno Brok.

During the visit Ambassador Dimitrov acknowledged once again the long-term active efforts of Commissioner Brok in developing the friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation at local level between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The latter resulted in Mr. Brok being awarded in 2019 the highest Bulgarian state honor – the Order "Madara Horseman - I degree". The opportunities of further implementation of some concrete initiatives of mutual interest in the field of culture, tourism, business and innovations were also discussed.

As part of the program of the working visit to the province of Friesland, Ambassador Dimitrov held also meetings with Bulgarian university students, conducting their studies in Leeuwarden, and later paid a visit to Dairy Campus – a research farm and agricultural educational institution. There, with Mr. Kees de Koning, executive head of the campus, Ambassador Dimitrov discussed the possibilities for exchange and cooperation in the field of innovative agriculture and combatting climate change – topical priorities for both the governments of Bulgaria and the Netherlands.

At the end of the working visit, at the invitation of the Dutch hosts Ambassador Konstantin Dimitrov visited the Leeuwarden Air Base, where the plans to use Dutch F-35 fighter jets to strengthen NATO's eastern flank were discussed with commodore Mr. Johan van Deventer, commander Air Combat Command, and with lieutenant colonel Mr. Guido Scholes, Squadron Commander 322 F-35.
