Deputy Minister Maria Angelieva hosted a farewell reception for the ambassadors of the Arab states accredited to Bulgaria
The event took place on 12 December 2025, ahead of her assuming her new duties as Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Hungary. Symbolically, the reception was co-hosted by Dimitar Mihaylov, Advisor in the Minister’s Cabinet, Arabist and Bulgaria’s incoming Ambassador to Qatar. The Director General for Bilateral Relations, Todor Stoyanov—soon to head Bulgaria’s Embassy in Spain—was also in attendance.

Bulgaria Marks International Human Rights Day
On 10 December, the world marks International Human Rights Day. On this date in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – the first universal document to proclaim the fundamental principles of the inalienable rights of every human being. This landmark document serves as the starting point for the subsequent development of a comprehensive body of international treaties, instruments and mechanisms designed to ensure the observance and protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms.

Bulgaria Requested Clarification From Turkey Regarding the Entry of the Vessel KAIROS Into Bulgarian Waters
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications, Grozdan Karadjov, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Bulgaria, Mehmet Uyanik.
The meeting was initiated by the Bulgarian side as early as Friday in connection with the incident involving the tanker KAIROS, which dropped anchor off the coast near Ahtopol, and the need for a full and timely clarification of all circumstances surrounding the case.

Minister Georg Georgiev took part in the annual meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), held in Vienna under the Chairmanship of Finland.
In a year marking the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Helsinki Final Act, which enshrines the fundamental principles of the European security architecture, the discussions were once again dominated by Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine and its devastating consequences for Europe’s security and for the Organisation itself.

During her visit to Vienna, on 4 December 2025 Deputy Minister Elena Shekerletova also held political consultations with Austria’s Minister for Europe, Integration and Family, Claudia Plakolm, on topics from the European agenda. The two sides discussed progress in the EU enlargement process, based on the principle of own merits; the next Multiannual Financial Framework of the Union for the period 2028–2034; the future of Europe, including the debate on EU reforms; as well as security-related issues.
