Republic of Cuba

TThe Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Cuba established diplomatic relations in 1960.

They were actively developing until 1989, when due to the deep political and economic changes in the two countries, the termination of the agreements signed before 1989 and the lowering of the level of political dialogue between them, there was a sharp decline.

Despite the varying degrees of intensity of contacts over the years, the traditionally friendly relations between the two nations have been preserved and, as a result of the changes that have taken place in Cuba in recent years, political dialogue has been restored.

The two countries maintain good cooperation in different areas of mutual interest as well as in the framework of international organizations and forums and the mutual support of candidatures. The year 2020 marked the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Bulgarian-Cuban diplomatic relations.

Traditionally, the Bulgarian Ambassador in Cuba is also accredited to the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. The Cuban Ambassador to Bulgaria is also accredited in the Republic of North Macedonia and Albania.

About 50 Bulgarians live permanently in Cuba. In most cases, they are from mixed marriages and their heirs.
