Republic of Argentina

In 1931, Argentina was the first Latin American country Bulgaria established diplomatic relations with. Relations were severed in 1944 and re-established in 1948.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Argentina is also accredited to the Multinational State of Bolivia, to the Republic of Paraguay, to the Republic of Chile, and to the Eastern Republic of Uruguay.

Argentina occupies an important place in Bulgaria's foreign policy in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2016, Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev paid an official visit to Argentina.

Based on the Agreement on Antarctic Cooperation signed between the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute and the National Directorate for Antarctica of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina, an active exchange in the field of Antarctic research is carried out.

Argentina is home to the largest Bulgarian community in South America. According to an unofficial estimate of the embassy in Buenos Aires, the descendants of the Bulgarian emigrants exceed 45 thousand people. The Bulgarian community is well organised and integrated. Six Bulgarian cultural and educational societies are active. More compact groups of descendants of our compatriots live in the Argentine provinces of Buenos Aires, Chaco and Chubut.
