Crime and security
Public security in the country is normal. There have been cases of theft and armed robbery, and is therefore not advisable to carry any valuables. Due to the border dispute between Guatemala and Belize, it is recommended to cross the land border only through the special border crossings for that purpose.
International driver's license can be used throughout the country for up to three months.
Hurricane season is from June to November.
Travel papers and visas
The passport must be valid for at least six months.
Bulgarian citizens can stay in the country without visas for up to 30 days. The stay can be extended locally by the migration authorities where a fee of BZD 60 is payable. Upon entering the country the travel document must be stamped. Upon leaving Belize, visitors that have no stamp are subject to a fine or detention.

Travel of children
When you travel with children who are accompanied by one parent only or the child travels alone, unaccompanied, he/she must have a document from the parents acknowledging their consent to the journey of the child.
Certification and Legalisation
Belize is a signatory to the Hague Appostille Convention. When presenting public acts of Belize to Bulgaria and of Bulgaria to Belize, the only requirement is the documents certified by "Apostille" to be translated into the respective language. The translation must be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the respective country or of its diplomatic or consular representation.
The translation certification procedure for a document intended for the Republic of Bulgaria, is the following:
- Certification by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belize;
- Followed by certification by the Embassy of Mexico in Belize;
- Certification by the Mexican Foreign Ministry;
- Certification by the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Mexico accredited to Belize.
Once the public document is certified by "Apostille", the translation can be made in Bulgaria, according to the established procedure.
Bulgarian identity documents
Due to lack of technical biometric data equipment, the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Mexico temporarily does not accept applications for the issuance of new passports.
The Consular Office of the Embassy can accept applications for issuance of identity card or driving license.
