Visa-Free Travel for Bulgarian Citizens on Short-Term Visits to the Republic of South Africa

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that, as of 7 October 2025, holders of ordinary Bulgarian passports may enter and stay in the Republic of South Africa without a visa for a period of up to 90 days for short-term visits.

On 15 October 2025, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Nikolay Pavlov, officially presented to the diplomatic corps in Sofia the candidature of Ms Mira Raycheva-Shekerjieva for the position of part-time Judge at the United Nations Dispute Tribunal (UNDT) for the term 2026–2033. The elections for this position will take place on 17 November 2025 during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

On 14 October 2025 in Sofia, bilateral political consultations were held between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria. The Bulgarian host for the consultations was Ms Gergana Karadjova, Director-General for Political Affairs. The Austrian delegation was led by Ms Hannah Liko, Director-General.

Bulgaria welcomes the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas which could be the first step towards lasting peace and security in the region. We commend President Trump’s leadership and active engagement in this complex process, and highly appreciate the mediation efforts of Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye, emphasizing that diplomacy is the only way forward.
