Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Christo Polendakov participated in the High-Level Meeting on the Midterm Review of the New Urban Agenda, held under the auspices of the United Nations General Assembly.

In his national statement, Deputy Minister Polendakov emphasized that Bulgaria views the current stage as a time for delivering on commitments through integrated, sustainable, and people-centred policies for urban and territorial development.

He outlined three key priorities guiding Bulgaria’s approach: strengthening multi-level governance and coordination among national, regional, and local authorities; promoting integrated investments in urban regeneration, sustainable transport, energy efficiency, and climate change adaptation; and enhancing territorial cohesion by reducing disparities between urban and rural areas while ensuring equal access to services and opportunities.

The Deputy Minister also highlighted Bulgaria’s efforts to develop a National Housing Strategy, implement a large-scale building renovation programme, and use Integrated Territorial Investments as a key instrument for sustainable regional development.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Christo Polendakov moderated the discussion on “Adequate and Affordable Housing as a Catalyst for Social Inclusion” during the Ministerial Luncheon entitled “Charting the Way Forward: Delivering on the Promise of the New Urban Agenda Beyond the Midterm Review,” convened by Poland and Zimbabwe, as Co-Chairs of the Group of Friends of UN-Habitat, Sustainable Urbanization and the New Urban Agenda, together with Kenya and UN-Habitat.
