Deputy Minister Ivanka Tasheva Held a Meeting with the Ambassador of Montenegro to the Republic of Bulgaria

On 9 July 2026, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivanka Tasheva held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Montenegro to the Republic of Bulgaria, Djordje Jankovic.

During the meeting, current issues on the bilateral agenda were discussed, as well as opportunities for further deepening cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and Montenegro. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the excellent state of bilateral relations and confirmed that there are no outstanding matters between the two countries.

Deputy Minister Tasheva underlined that the good level of political dialogue creates favourable conditions for expanding economic ties. In this context, the project to establish a direct air service between Sofia and Podgorica was discussed. The project is of mutual interest and is expected to provide further impetus to trade and economic cooperation, tourism exchanges and contacts between the citizens of the two countries.

The progress made by Montenegro in the process of accession to the European Union was also a key focus of the discussion. Deputy Minister Tasheva reaffirmed Bulgaria’s consistent support for the country’s European perspective, noting that the results achieved demonstrate the importance of political will and the consistent fulfilment of the membership criteria. The Bulgarian side expressed its readiness to continue sharing its expert experience in support of Montenegro’s European integration process.

Ambassador Jankovic thanked Bulgaria for the unwavering support it has provided to Montenegro on its path towards membership of the European Union and emphasised that this support has always been highly valued by the Montenegrin side.

In conclusion, Deputy Minister Tasheva congratulated Ambassador Jankovic on the forthcoming Statehood Day of Montenegro on 13 July and extended her wishes for peace, prosperity and success to the country and its people.
