Bulgaria Voted Member of the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons

At its 23rd Conference, held today, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) unanimously voted the Republic of Bulgaria a member of its Executive Council for the 2019-2021 period. The Executive Council is the highest authority of the OPCW.

‘I am glad that starting next year Bulgaria will be taking over the presidency of the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation. This stands as one of the most important regional cooperation formats, bringing together EU member states and non-EU countries. We have to make the best possible use of the capacity of the Organisation.’ These were the words of Deputy Prime Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva at a meeting today with the Secretary General of the Permanent International Secretariat of the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), Mr Michael Christides.

Minister Zaharieva: Bringing Gas to Bulgaria’s Homes Will Improve Air Quality

“The fact that only 3 % of the Bulgarian households have gas and our desire to work for improving air quality create serious potential for Azerbaijani investments in Bulgaria,” Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva said in comments made during a press conference with her Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov on the idea of participation by Azerbaijan in bringing the gas transmission network to the Bulgarian households. This opportunity was discussed first by the two countries’ Prime Ministers during Prime Minister Boyko Borisov’s visit to Baku at the beginning of the year.
