Position of the MFA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Republic of Bulgaria categorically condemns the vandalism directed at the monument of Hristo Botev in Odessa.
We expect that the competent Ukrainian authorities identify the perpetrators of this act of hooliganism and that they hold them accountable for it.
It is the principled position of the MFA to always condemn attacks on monuments. Such actions are inadmissible and are incompatible with the democratic values Bulgaria and Europe uphold.
Bulgaria attaches great importance to the respect for the rights and the historical and cultural identity of the 200,000 members of the Bulgarian ethnic community in Ukraine, which contributes to the very good relations between the two countries.
