Significant progress in post-monitoring dialogue between PACE and Bulgaria

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in the first part of its regular session in 2013, held on January 22 in Strasbourg, adopted a resolution on continuing post-monitoring dialogue with Bulgaria. Taking into account the progress made by Bulgaria, the areas being monitored are reduced to three: reform of the judicial system, changes to the Electoral Code, media freedom and transparency in media ownership.

“I strongly condemn the unpleasant incident during the Movement for Rights and Freedoms congress on Saturday. It was a shock to everyone and such actions will not be tolerated in Bulgaria,” Minister Nickolay Mladenov said at a meeting today with ambassadors of EU member states. Also taking part in the meeting was Deputy Interior Minister Dimitar Georgiev.
