Bulgaria, Thailand Step Up Bilateral Relations

Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva conferred in Brussels with her Thai counterpart Don Pramudwinai. The first meeting at a level of foreign ministers since 2012 took place on the sidelines of a EU-ASEAN ministerial held in the Belgian capital. Thailand holds the ASEAN chairmanship since January 1, 2019.

The 22th EU-ASEAN meeting of foreign ministers was held in Brussels today. The meeting was co-chaired by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini on behalf of the European Union and by Singapore Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan on behalf of ASEAN. Bulgaria was represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva.

The action plan against disinformation, the preparation for the EU - League of Arab States ministerial meeting and cooperation between the EU and ASEAN dominated the agenda of this year's first EU External Affairs Council meeting held in Brussels today. The Bulgarian delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva, who is also Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the judicial reform.

On 1st of January 2019 Bulgaria assumed the Chairmanship-in-Office of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation for the period 1 January – 30 June 2019. Under the motto “Sea of Opportunities”, the Bulgarian Chairmanship-in-Office sets as its priorities the further development of BSEC as a project-oriented organization; the continuation of the processes of reform and adaptation of the organization to the contemporary challenges; the promotion of the meaningful interaction with the EU.
