Coordination Centre Established at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Response to the Situation in the Middle East

By order of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr Rosen Zhelyazkov, and under the direct leadership of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Georg Georgiev, a Coordination Centre has been established at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.

Georg Georgiev: Bulgaria Remains a Consistent Supporter of Montenegro’s European Integration

Within the framework of the GLOBSEC International Security Forum, taking place in Prague from 12 to 14 June 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr Georg Georgiev, held a bilateral meeting with his Montenegrin counterpart, Ms Maida Gorčević. During the discussion, Minister Georgiev emphasised that Bulgaria has consistently supported Montenegro’s European perspective and acknowledges the progress achieved by the country since the formation of its current government in October 2023.

Recommendations for Bulgarian Citizens on the Territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran

In light of the escalating tensions in the region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria urges all Bulgarian citizens currently on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran to leave the country immediately. Bulgarian citizens who are currently in Iran and are required to remain in the country should strictly adhere to the security instructions issued by local authorities, stay regularly informed of the evolving situation, and avoid areas that are military sites or locations where public gatherings are taking place.

Recommendations for Bulgarian Citizens on the Territory of the State of Israel

In light of recent developments in the security situation and the declaration of a state of emergency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria urges all Bulgarian citizens to refrain from any travel to the State of Israel. We advise Bulgarian citizens currently on the territory of Israel to remain calm, to strictly follow the instructions issued by the Israeli Home Front Command, and to stay informed through official updates.

Recommendations for Bulgarian Citizens in the Middle East Region

In connection with the escalation of tensions in the region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria urges Bulgarian citizens located in the Middle East — and in particular on the territory of the Republic of Iraq, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia — to strictly adhere to the security instructions issued by local authorities and to regularly stay informed about the situation on the ground. Bulgarian nationals are advised to avoid locations that attract large crowds and venues hosting mass gatherings.

Position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria considers the conviction delivered today by the Basic Court in Bitola against Mr Ljupcho Georgievski to be categorically unacceptable. Mr Georgievski is one of the most prominent representatives of the Bulgarian community in the Republic of North Macedonia, the chairman of the Ivan Mihailov Cultural Club – Bitola, which was shut down by the authorities in Skopje, and a Bulgarian citizen.

Minister Georg Georgiev Chairs Meeting of the Interinstitutional Coordination Mecha-nism on Bulgaria’s Accession to the OECD, with Participation of OECD Secretariat Representatives

On 11 June 2025, a meeting of the Interinstitutional Coordination Mechanism (ICM) on Bulgaria’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the chairmanship of Minister Georg Georgiev. The meeting was attended by a delegation from the OECD Secretariat, led by Ms Geeta Kothari, OECD Enlargement Process Coordinator.

On 11 June 2025, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Nikolay Pavlov took part in the final stage of the selection competition “Bulgarian Youth Delegates to the United Nations 2025–2026.” The newly elected youth delegates for the 2025–2026 term are Ms Vyara Trifonova and Mr Viktor Tsvetanov.
