Nickolay Mladenov: Armenia and Azerbaijan should not allow further escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh
“On behalf of Europe, we today made a strong and clear call to the parties to the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh to not allow further actions that could aggravate the situation and to take prompt steps to reduce tensions,” said Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov who, together with his Swedish counterpart Carl Bildt is on a tour of the South Caucasus. Today they are in Armenia, where they were joined by Polish Foreign Minister.

Support for the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people for a democratic transition
The “Friends of the Syrian People” group, which held its fourth meeting in the Moroccan city of Marrakech, has confirmed its commitment to a political solution to the crisis in Syria, has urged Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to relinquish power and has warned that the use of any chemical or biological weapons by his regime is unacceptable.

In regard to the long-range rocket fired by the DPRK today, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vessela Tcherneva said:
Bulgaria expresses its strong concern at the fact that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea openly ignored the calls by the international community and carried out the launching of a long-range rocket on December 12 2012.

Three European Union ministers in Azerbaijan
The tour of the South Caucasus by the foreign ministers of Bulgaria and Sweden and a Polish delegation began in Azerbaijan. In Baku, Nickolay Mladenov, Carl Bildt and Jacek Mihailovsky held talks with President Ilham Aliyev and their Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov.

Conclusions of the EU General Affairs Council are to the benefit of Bulgaria, Macedonia and the entire region
“Bulgaria will assist Macedonia to move forward on the path of European integration as swiftly as possible, and for that reason we welcome the Council conclusions. They will create a positive climate throughout the region,” Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister said during the EU General Affairs Council meeting in Brussels yesterday.
