Nadezhda Neynski: In Bucha, we see what Putin leaves behind: murders, ruins, and atrocities

Foreign Minister Nadezhda Neynski took part in a commemorative ceremony in Bucha, Ukraine, in memory of more than 500 Ukrainian civilians killed in March 2022 by Russian soldiers in the city. The event took place within the framework of the informal meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU Member States, hosted by Ukraine.
Bulgaria expressed solidarity with Ukraine and sympathy for the relatives of those injured and killed by the aggressor’s forces. The war has caused immense human suffering, widespread destruction, geopolitical instability, and has undermined global security. “In Bucha, we see what Putin leaves behind: murders, ruins, and atrocities,” Foreign Minister Nadezhda Neynski said during the event.
What happened in Bucha is not only a tragic chapter in Ukraine’s modern history, but also remains a grave testament to violations of international humanitarian law that cannot be ignored or left without consequences. The need to preserve historical memory and to continue international efforts to identify effective international mechanisms for accountability and the delivery of justice for the victims was emphasized.
The events in Bucha clearly demonstrate that peace built on impunity can be neither sustainable nor just.
