On 30 March 2026, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between Deputy Minister Radi Naydenov and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria Her Excellency Ms Andrea Ikic-Böhm.

During the discussions, the long-standing excellent bilateral relations, based on shared European values and strategic priorities, as well as on our traditional cultural, political, and economic ties, were discussed.

Deputy Minister Radi Naydenov emphasized the importance of unity among European countries in today’s open world, characterized by great dynamism and a number of new challenges. He welcomed the intensive bilateral political dialogue and active economic ties, which place Austria among the leading investors in Bulgaria, and noted the important role of cooperation in the fields of modern technology, digitalization, and environmental protection.

Ambassador Ikic-Böhm expressed her satisfaction with the active bilateral political dialogue and economic ties, and emphasized the traditional cooperation in the field of culture, noting that a director of the Austrian Cultural Forum at the Embassy in Sofia was accredited last year in support of this cooperation. She also expressed gratitude for the successful bilateral partnership in international organizations, and in particular for Bulgaria’s support for her country’s important candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2027-2028 term.

For his part, Deputy Minister Naydenov also expressed his appreciation for the good cooperation between Bulgaria and Austria not only bilaterally, but also within the framework of multilateral diplomacy, and called for Austria’s support for Bulgaria’s candidacy for membership in the OECD, as well as for the Council of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Region C, for the 2027-2030 term.

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuing their excellent bilateral and multilateral cooperation, guided by a spirit of mutual understanding and aimed at promoting peace and prosperity in both countries and for their citizens.
