On 3 December 2025, Deputy Minister Elena Shekerletova held political consultations with the State Secretary for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia, Ms Andrea Metelko-Zgombić.
The two interlocutors shared the assessment of the excellent state of bilateral relations and their mutual ambition to strengthen results-oriented cooperation in a number of areas of common interest. Measures were identified to invigorate economic contacts which, despite their upward trend, remain far from reaching their full potential. They confirmed their intention to further encourage cooperation in the fields of energy, security, tourism, education and culture.
Current topics on the European and international agenda were also discussed, including Ukraine, the future EU Multiannual Financial Framework, institutional reform within the EU, EU competitiveness, EU enlargement, migration and other issues.
Deputy Minister Shekerletova provided information on recent developments under Sofia’s Chairmanship-in-Office of the SEECP and highlighted the focus of the initiatives on building trust among participants and fostering positive momentum in advancing the regional agenda, based on the principles of good-neighbourly relations and inclusiveness.
