Deputy Minister Nikolay Berievski Receives Copies of the Letters of Credence of the Ambassador of Iceland to Bulgaria, H.E. Fridrik Jonsson

On 17 November 2025, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikolay Berievski, received copies of the letters of credence of the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iceland to Bulgaria, H.E. Fridrik Jónsson.
During the meeting, both sides underlined the constructive cooperation between Bulgaria and Iceland, grounded in shared values. They expressed readiness to intensify the political dialogue and to deepen the partnership in areas of mutual interest. Ambassador Jonsson affirmed that Iceland would continue to be a reliable partner, supporting Bulgaria with its expertise in the modernisation of the energy sector and working to promote direct partnerships between institutions and businesses.
A key focus of the meeting was the forthcoming signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism for the period 2021–2028 between Bulgaria and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The document provides for funding targeted at strategic priorities such as human rights, social inclusion and the Green Transition.
The discussion also touched upon additional topics on the European and international agenda.
