Minister Georg Georgiev Holds a Farewell Meeting with the Ambassador of Japan to Bulgaria, H.E. Hisashi Michigami
11 November 2025 NewsOn 11 November this year, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev, held a farewell meeting with the Ambassador of Japan to Bulgaria, His Excellency Mr Hisashi Michigami.
Minister Georgiev expressed his gratitude for Ambassador Michigami’s efforts in promoting Bulgarian – Japanese relations. During the discussion, both sides highly commended the upward development of bilateral cooperation across all fields of mutual interest, including the intensification of high-level political dialogue, economic, cultural and academic exchange, in the context of the strategic partnership established this year between Bulgaria and Japan.
On the Bulgarian side, congratulations were extended for the successful hosting of EXPO Osaka 2025 and satisfaction was expressed at Bulgaria’s participation. The Japanese Ambassador in turn offered his congratulations on Bulgaria’s achievements in joining the Schengen area, the Eurozone, and on the progress of its OECD candidature.
The prospects for developing sectoral cooperation were highlighted in the fields of economy, energy, security and defence, innovation, science and technology, culture, education and tourism, as well as in the area of development cooperation for the countries of the Western Balkans.
A common will was declared for closer interaction on key issues of the international agenda, including support for Ukraine, both bilaterally and within the EU-Japan and NATO-Japan frameworks, on the basis of shared values.
