Meeting Between Minister Georg Georgiev and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants of the Republic of Lebanon, Youssef Rajji
11 November 2025 NewsOn 11 November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants of the Republic of Lebanon, Youssef Rajji, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting took place in the framework of the official visit to Bulgaria by the President of the Republic of Lebanon, General Joseph Aoun, at the invitation of President Rumen Radev.
Minister Georgiev described President Aoun’s visit as “a new page” in bilateral relations and emphasised that the stability and prosperity of Lebanon are of great importance not only for Bulgaria but also for the wider Middle East region. He welcomed the efforts of the Lebanese Head of State and government to strengthen state institutions, advance ambitious economic reforms, and achieve stability. He reaffirmed Bulgaria’s readiness, as an EU Member State, to provide support and deepen cooperation. He added that Bulgaria looks forward to the revitalisation of the political dialogue between the EU and Lebanon, in light of the Association Council scheduled for December after an eight-year pause. He underlined that Bulgaria can serve as a strong voice in support of Lebanon within the EU and in the context of the Union’s common policies.
For his part, Minister Rajji expressed his readiness to cooperate and to revitalise and further develop bilateral relations following a period of relative stagnation. He also welcomed the traditionally friendly ties between the two countries and their peoples.
The two top diplomats agreed on the establishment of a joint mechanism that would serve as a foundation for revitalising and expanding bilateral cooperation. They also highlighted the need to resume political consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs and to ensure their regular convening.
During the meeting, the parties noted the significant untapped potential and numerous opportunities for cooperation across all areas of mutual interest. Priority areas identified included trade and economic relations, investment, military cooperation, tourism, culture, education, innovation and growth, new technologies, and artificial intelligence. The prospects for restoring the direct air service between Sofia and Beirut were also discussed.
The Ministers likewise exchanged views on a range of regional and international issues.
