The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Invited the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic

On 15 October 2025, the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic in Sofia, Vasil Grivna, was summoned to a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of official statements by President Peter Pellegrini during his visit to the Republic of North Macedonia, and the unacceptable assessments made concerning that country’s process of European integration.
The Director-General for European Affairs, Yordan Parvanov, expressed the deep dismay of the Bulgarian side at President Pellegrini’s positions, which in practice call into question the validity of the July 2022 European Consensus, adopted by all EU member states including Slovakia. “We are strongly disappointed that a partner country would permit itself to promote the counter-productive rhetoric of the government of the Republic of North Macedonia, which persistently seeks a culprit for the lack of progress in its European integration process. Such a stance serves neither the strategic vision of the EU for the region, nor the citizens of the candidate country,”
We would like to remind our partners in Bratislava that progress along the path to the EU depends solely on a country’s own merits in the process of satisfying the established criteria and the agreements reached.
