The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns the acts of vandalism perpetrated against the synagogue in the city of Varna and against the Monument of Gratitude in the city of Burgas, which stands as a symbol of appreciation for the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews during the Second World War.
It is utterly unacceptable that such deliberate malicious acts should cast a shadow over Bulgaria’s historic achievements, of which the Bulgarian people are rightfully proud. Such actions are alien to Bulgarian society and are clearly intended to provoke artificial tension and division among Bulgarian citizens; for this reason, they cannot and will not remain without consequences..
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls upon the competent authorities to take all necessary measures without delay to identify and hold the perpetrators accountable.
