Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Elena Shekerletova Receives Copies of the Letters of Credence of the Newly Appointed Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Bulgaria H.E. Mr. Zurab Khamashuridze
02 October 2025 NewsOn 2 October 2025, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Elena Shekerletova, received copies of the Letters of Credence of the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Bulgaria, H.E. Mr. Zurab Khamashuridze.
Bulgaria traditionally regards Georgia as an important partner in the South Caucasus and the wider Black Sea region and relies on constructive cooperation with the countries of the region, including Georgia, to achieve and maintain security, stability and economic prosperity. In this context, Deputy Minister Shekerletova assured Ambassador Khamashuridze that Bulgaria firmly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognised borders.
Ambassador Khamashuridze highlighted the importance of the strong ties between Bulgaria and Georgia, which date back centuries, and noted that he would work to further deepen bilateral relations on this solid foundation. He identified the economy, particularly trade and connectivity in all its dimensions, as a key area for cooperation.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to developing comprehensive, long-term and mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation, including participation in connectivity projects along the Europe–Asia corridor.
“We are pleased that Bulgaria has traditionally been among Georgia’s top ten trading partners, and we stand ready to further develop our bilateral economic cooperation in the future,” stated Deputy Minister Elena Shekerletova. At the same time, she expressed deep disappointment over the observed democratic backsliding in Georgia over the past two years and urged the country to return to the path of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. She emphasised that Bulgaria consistently supports the European aspirations of the majority of the Georgian public and remains ready, as before, to extend a helping hand to Georgia by sharing its experience and expertise, should the Georgian government choose to resume democratic reforms.
The meeting also touched upon other current topics on the international agenda.
