In response to media inquiries about the detention of a Bulgarian national on the territory of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria issues the following statement:
Mr Lyubomir Kirov holds both Bulgarian and Ukrainian citizenship. Under the current legislation of Ukraine, persons with Ukrainian citizenship incur certain obligations while on Ukrainian territory, including obligations arising from mobilisation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in active contact with Mr Kirov’s family as well as with the competent Ukrainian institutions. The Bulgarian side is closely monitoring the developments of the case and is making every effort, within its powers, to protect his rights.
