Minister Georg Georgiev Meets Secretary General of the Central European Initiative Franco Dal Mas
10 September 2025 NewsThe Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev, today welcomed in Sofia the Secretary General of the Central European Initiative (CEI), Mr Franco Dal Mas. The visit forms part of the Secretary General’s tour of the member states of the organisation, with a focus on deepening cooperation at governmental level.
During the discussions, the two sides addressed key issues on the regional and European agenda, including the challenges facing the region, support for Ukraine, the promotion of regional connectivity, and the European perspective of the countries within the CEI region
Minister Georgiev expressed his high appreciation of the CEI’s contribution as a platform for effective regional cooperation, knowledge exchange, and the sharing of best practices, particularly in the context of the European integration process.
Both officials underlined the importance of the principle of own merits as a guiding factor in the process of accession to the European Union. They agreed that this process remains the most sustainable instrument for strengthening stability, security, and prosperity in the region.
Minister Georgiev stressed the strategic importance of the construction of Corridor VIII as a priority for Bulgaria, noting its potential to make a substantial contribution to economic development, social and economic integration, and enhanced regional security.
