Position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
18 July 2025 News
In response to statements made on 18 July 2025 by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Ms Maria Zakharova, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria issues the following:
Such aggressive claims are entirely unfounded, unsupported by evidence, and categorically false. The Republic of Bulgaria is a full member of the European Union and NATO – organisations founded on shared democratic values and principles – and consistently upholds its commitments to adhere to strict export control standards.
Bulgaria applies the highest standards of transparency, accountability and international legal compliance in the area of arms transfers. Every action in this field is subject to rigorous oversight by national and allied competent institutions and authorities.
Allegations of the kind promoted by official representatives of the Russian Federation represent yet another episode in a hostile disinformation campaign, part of a broader hybrid offensive aimed at discrediting NATO and EU member states that support Ukraine in its legitimate self-defence against Russia’s unlawful, full-scale military aggression.
