Today we mark the Day of the Diplomatic Service of the Republic of Bulgaria – the date on which, in 1879, by Decree No. 1 of Prince Alexander I of Battenberg, the first structure of Bulgaria’s foreign policy administration was established. Since then, Bulgarian diplomacy has consistently defended the country’s national interests and contributed to its affirmation as a respected and dignified member of the international community.
For 146 years, Bulgarian diplomats have worked to:
- uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Bulgaria;
- secure the country’s accession to key international organisations and initiatives;
- build relations of friendship and cooperation with countries around the world;
- assist Bulgarian citizens and communities abroad.
On this special day, we express our sincere gratitude to all Bulgarian diplomats for their professionalism, dedication, and tireless efforts in promoting and protecting Bulgaria’s national interests with honour and integrity.
