Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Armenia

On 15 July 2025, political consultations were held in Sofia between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Armenia. The Bulgarian delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms Elena Shekerletova, while the Armenian side was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Vahan Kostanyan.
The consultations included a comprehensive review of bilateral relations, with a particular focus on identifying areas for the expansion and deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation. Key topics highlighted during the discussions included connectivity – in the fields of transport, energy, and digital infrastructure, as well as the achievement of peace, security, and stability in the wider Black Sea region. In relation to the strengthening of trade and economic ties, satisfaction was expressed regarding the upcoming ninth session of the Bulgarian–Armenian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, to be held in Sofia from 16 to 18 July 2025. The Bulgarian side reaffirmed its support and expressed readiness to share experience and expertise in support of Armenia’s rapprochement with the European Union.
The two sides also exchanged views on current issues on the regional and global agenda, including security in the Black Sea region in the context of the ongoing Russian military aggression against Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, EU enlargement, and other matters.
