07 July 2025 News

Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Georg Georgiev, welcomed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, H.E. Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, who is visiting the country to conduct political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the State of Qatar.

Following a brief meeting between the two ministers, Mr Georgiev and H.E. Al-Muraikhi, along with their respective delegations, officially opened the plenary session of the consultations. Discussions focused on opportunities to deepen the bilateral political dialogue and to expand cooperation across a range of areas of mutual interest.

The political consultations continued under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms Maria Angelieva. In her welcoming remarks to the Qatari delegation, she expressed confidence that the visit of Minister Al-Muraikhi would provide renewed impetus to bilateral cooperation, particularly in the context of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, to be marked in 2025.

During the talks, key topics on the bilateral agenda were reviewed, including opportunities to strengthen cooperation in a number of priority sectors such as the economy, energy, defence and security, culture, education, tourism, and transport.

Particular attention was paid to the importance and preparations for the upcoming Third Session of the Joint Bulgarian-Qatari Commission for Economic and Technical Cooperation. The session was recognised as a key instrument in promoting bilateral ties through the organisation of joint business forums aimed at establishing direct contacts between Qatari and Bulgarian companies and creating sustainable partnerships in the fields of trade and investment.

The Bulgarian side also presented the cooperation of the State Cultural Institute with Qatari partners and highlighted the promising potential of collaboration between the diplomatic institutes of the two countries.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared interest in enhancing bilateral relations, including through participation in events and initiatives held both in Bulgaria and in Qatar.
