Minister Georg Georgiev held a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptians Abroad of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Badr Abdelatti. This was the second such conversation between the two ministers, following an earlier exchange just over a month ago.
In addition to current issues on the bilateral agenda, the two ministers discussed the ongoing tense situation in the Middle East. Minister Georgiev reaffirmed Bulgaria's principled support for the Egyptian plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, which continues to be developed in close coordination with key stakeholders in the region. The two ministers were unanimous that efforts must remain focused on securing a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and advancing to the second phase of the ceasefire agreement — aimed at ending hostilities and ensuring the release of all hostages.
Minister Abdelatti expressed his condolences for the tragic death in Gaza of the Bulgarian citizen who was an employee of the UN system. Both sides affirmed their determination to do everything within their capacity to bring an end to the bloodshed and initiate the stabilisation of Gaza and other parts of the Middle East.
Minister Georgiev confirmed plans to visit Egypt in the near future, where he will hold high-level and senior-level meetings and present to the Egyptian business community the opportunities for deepening bilateral economic and investment cooperation, which has seen notable growth over the past year.
The possibility of convening a new round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries was outlined.
