Interdepartmental Council on the Participation of Bulgaria in NATO and CSDP held a meeting

The Interdepartmental Council on the Participation of Bulgaria in NATO and the Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union told held a regular meeting, under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Naydenov. The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Todor Tagarev and representatives of the Ministries of Interior, Finance, Justice and Economy, as well as the State Agency for National Security, State Commission on Information Security and the intelligence services.

Deputy Minister Naydenov submitted reports on the implementation of decisions taken at the previous meeting of the Interdepartmental Council, on December 21 2012. Minister Tagarev briefed the Council on the results of the multilateral consultations in NATO on the package of goals for NATO capabilities for Bulgaria.

The Interdepartmental Council decided to submit to the Council of Ministers a draft decree on the guidelines for the development of the defence policy of the Republic of Bulgaria. After this has been adopted, a working group including representatives of the relevant ministries and departments will draw up the details of implementation.

Also discussed at the meeting were matters related to contributions to the new headquarters of NATO and Bulgaria’s commitments in support of the development of the Afghanistan security forces.
