18 January 2024 News

On 18 January 2024. Ambassador Giuseppina Zarra welcomed at the Embassy one of the winners of the National Competition ‘Women and Diplomacy — Ambassador for a Day’: Kristin Simeonova. Accompanying the Ambassador throughout the day, the 23-year-old student of Cultural Studies at St. Kliment Ohridski Sofia University had the opportunity to see what a mission leader usually does during his/her working day.

The national competition, which was announced on 28 November by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel as a joint initiative with the women ambassadors in Bulgaria, was aimed at young female students aged between 14 and 25 with an interest in diplomacy, who submitted an essay on the topic ‘I am an ambassador’ in Bulgarian and a summary of the same in English or, if desired and possible, in other languages, including Italian.

The award ceremony was held on 15 December 2023 in Sofia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during which the Deputy Prime Minister and the participating female ambassadors presented certificates to the winners in the 18-25 age category, who now have the opportunity to see in practice what the job of a head of a diplomatic mission consists of, while the girls in the 14-17 age category participate in a study visit to the National Assembly, the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
