A delegation from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), led by Deputy Secretary-General Ulrik Knudsen, took part in an external meeting of the Interdepartmental Coordination Mechanism for Bulgaria’s accession to the OECD, chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova.

The aim of the meeting was to discuss in detail the technical and administrative parameters, stages and conditions of Bulgaria’s accession process to the OECD after the adoption of the Roadmap for Bulgaria’s accession to the Organisation on June 10 in Paris.

Deputy Minister Velislava Petrova emphasized that Bulgaria is facing an intensive and ambitious process of talks on joining the Organization, which will require fast and effective interdepartmental coordination. “Bulgaria is strongly committed to the OECD accession process, which will serve as a powerful catalyst for substantial domestic reforms in the country”, she pointed out.

Deputy Secretary-General Ulrik Knudsen congratulated Bulgaria for the decisive approach in the preparations for joining the Organisation and shared his positive impressions from the meetings held with the responsible institutions in the framework of the preparatory mission he led in Bulgaria in the period 13-14 June. “At the end of the accession talks Bulgaria will be much more innovative and competitive”, he concluded.

Over 60 representatives from more than 20 state institutions took part in the meeting of the Interdepartmental Coordination Mechanism organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Institute to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Starosel.  The next step in the accession process is the preparation and submission by Bulgaria of an Initial Memorandum with a position on each OECD legal instrument.
