27 January 2022 News

Today, 30 years ago, the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Good Neighborliness between the Republic of Bulgaria and Romania was signed. This act marked the beginning of the latest history in the development of our bilateral relations and confirmed the determination of our countries to develop and deepen their cooperation in the new political and economic realities.

Over the last 30 years, Bulgaria and Romania have walked a long and difficult path together, facing a lot of challenges that have successfully overcome - the accession of our countries to NATO in March 2004 and to the EU in January 2007. The partnership built within EU and NATO, as well as within a number of regional formats, has given further impetus to the development of our bilateral relations and contributes to the stability, security and the European future of our two peoples and of the region as a whole.

Among the achievements in bilateral terms is the High-Level Cooperation Council established between the Republic of Bulgaria and Romania, which set the framework for expanding bilateral cooperation on a more pragmatic basis, the construction of a new - second bridge over the Danube river, the Gas Interconnection Bulgaria – Romania (IBR), the opening of new border crossing points.

We confirm our commitments assumed in the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Good Neighborliness and express our confidence that the fruitful political dialogue between Bulgaria and Romania, the good cooperation in all areas of mutual interest will continue in the future!
