Concert on the Occasion of Bulgaria’s National Day in South Africa

A concert on the occasion of Bulgaria’s national day and the 140th anniversary of the Liberation took place at the Bulgarian Club in Midrand on 3 March 2018. A greetings address was given by Ambassador Krassimir Stefanov. An amateur theatre company with the association re-enacted some heroic events in Bulgarian history. The performance highlighted the endeavours of Vassil Levski to organise the Bulgarian people’s fight for freedom, the outbreak of the April 1876 Uprising, and Raina Knyaginya waving the flag she embroidered with the motto “Freedom or Death”. The programme included a dance performance by the Bulgarian Rose Folk Ensemble, and after the end of the concert all Bulgarians attending joined hands for a horo dance.
