Third of March Marked in Cairo

Bulgaria’s national day and the 140th anniversary of our country’s Liberation were marked by a reception at the Conrad Cairo Hotel on 7 March 2018. More than 200 guests attended the function, including heads and members of diplomatic missions in Cairo, defence attaches, officials of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Antiquities, members of Egypt’s House of Representatives, members of the parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, representatives of the League of Arab States, as well as members of the Bulgarian community in Egypt. Major General Mohammed Abdulfattah El Keshki, Assistant Minister of Defence for External Relations, represented Egypt as a guest of honour.
In his welcoming address, Ambassador Lyubomir Popov honoured the memory of all who sacrificed their lives for the restoration of Bulgarian statehood.
“Now, 140 years after those memorable events, Bulgaria is a member of the EU and NATO, and the Presidency of the Council of the European Union rotated to it at the beginning of 2018,” said the Ambassador, stressing that during its EU Presidency Bulgaria will focus on the need to build an even stronger and more secure European Union which shows more solidarity.
