Classical music concert in Bratislava marks Bulgaria’s National Day

08 March 2018 News

A concert of classical music pieces performed in the Grand Hall of the Slovak Radio building on the 2nd of March marked the National Day of Bulgaria. The event was attended by representatives of government bodies and public organizations, diplomats, members of the Bulgarian community in Slovakia, friends of Bulgaria and classical music lovers.

In her congratulatory address, Ambassador Yordanka Chobanova underscored the significance of the 3rd of March for the history of Bulgaria. She pointed out that one should never forget the helping hand extended in a difficult historical moment and paid solemn tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the Liberty of our Homeland, and first and foremost, to the Bulgarian volunteer fighters and the Russian soldiers.

The concert program, selected by Konstantin Ilievski, an orchestra conductor, pianist and composer, featured works by P. Vladigerov, J. Suk, C. Debussy, and F. Poulenc. The Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra accompanied the soloists, virtuoso pianists Jordana Pavlovičová, Christina Depeche and the world famous Bulgarian violinist Svetlin Rusev, who received a standing ovation for his rendition of the Vardar Rhapsody by Pancho Vladigerov. The applause went on unabated long after the closing bars of his encore performance of Sevdana by Georgi Zlatev-Cherkin.

The concert was recorded and will be broadcast on Slovakian National Radio and Television.
