The 3rd of March reception in Nicosia

Over 200 guests attended the reception honoring the National Day of Bulgaria hosted by the Bulgarian Embassy in Nicosia. The attendees heard welcoming addresses by Nikos Christodoulides, the Foreign Minister of Cyprus, and Bulgarian Ambassador Hristo Georgiev.

The newly appointed Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides greeted the guests on the occasion of the National Day of Bulgaria and underscored that Bulgaria and Cyprus are pursuing excellent bilateral relations in different spheres of mutual interest: trade, economic, cultural and educational. The two countries maintain active political dialog at high and top level, Cyprus is a major investor in Bulgaria and many Cypriot students have received their education from Bulgarian universities. Minister Christodoulides wished every success to the current Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Ambassador Georgiev pointed out that the 3rd of March was the day on which Bulgaria restored its statehood. He also noted the excellent relations between Bulgaria and Cyprus in all spheres while focusing on the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The Ambassador addressed with good wishes, in Bulgarian, the attending Bulgarian guests as well as the Cypriot graduates of Bulgarian universities.

Among the attendees were the President of the Cypriot Parliament Demetris Syllouris, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Vassiliki Anastassiadou and the Minister of Health Constantinos Ioannou; members of parliament, representatives of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP); representatives of the Cypriot, Armenian, and Maronite churches; the former Cypriot foreign ministers Georgios Iacovou and Nicos Rolandis; mayors, trade union leaders, ambassadors.

The guests were welcomed by Ambassador Georgiev and the Honorary Consul if Bulgaria in Cyprus, Vakis Loizou. Films about Bulgaria were shown on a big screen.
