Tunisian students sing Bulgarian arias in Carthage on our National Day
07 March 2018 NewsA concert of arias from Bulgarian and foreign classic operas performed by Tunisian students at the Acropolium of Carthage on the 6th of March, 2018, marked the National Day of Bulgaria in the North African nation. The young singers, who are disciples of Tunisia’s Higher Institute of Music and the National Conservatory, were directed by the Bulgarian opera singer Hristina Hadjieva.
Among the guests at the festive occasion were the Minister of Women's Affairs, the Family and Children, Néziha Labidi, and the Secretary of State for Health, Sonia Ben Cheikh; members of government, parliament and local institutions, chiefs of diplomatic missions accredited to Tunisia; representatives of the non-governmental sector, the business community, fellow Bulgarians and many friends of Bulgaria.
Ambassador Slavena Gergova paid tribute to the self-sacrifice of the heroes who gave their lives for the liberation of this country. She underscored that the current motto of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, ‘United We Stand Strong’, had been chosen way back in that particular historic moment as the national motto of Bulgaria, a symbol of its national efforts that were crowned with success. Ambassador Gergova emphasized the role of Bulgaria’s EU membership for the positive development of this country in recent decades while also noting the upward development of relations between Bulgaria and Tunisia in the past year, especially in the field of economic cooperation.
Minister Néziha Labidi also delivered a congratulatory address, underscoring the solid foundation of bilateral relations and expressing gratitude for the Bulgarian contribution towards building Tunisia over the years.
