Bulgaria’s National Day marked in Copenhagen

A reception marking the National Day of Bulgaria was hosted at the Bulgarian Embassy in Copenhagen on the 2nd of March this year. The event took place in two parts. The former part was honored by the presence of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and other Danish institutions, representatives of public, political and cultural circles and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Denmark. Each attendee received a gift of a martenitza for good health and good luck.
In his welcoming address Ambassador Rusi Ivanov emphasized the importance of that day for the Bulgarian history while pointing out that the date 3 March, 2018, marks the 140th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of San Stefano.
The latter part of the reception was for members of the Bulgarian community in Denmark, among whom were Bulgarians in the employment of Danish institutions and international organizations headquartered in Denmark, as well as university students. The event continued with a brief music program performed by the BG-AalborgDancefolk troupe founded by Bulgarian students in the city of Aalborg. Ultimately, everybody present joined hands in a Bulgarian horo (circle dance).
On the 3rd of March, 2018, the Bulgarian Educational Center “Ivan Vazov” in Copenhagen was the venue for the ceremonial celebration of the National Day of Bulgaria. The event was attended by teachers, pupils and their parents.
In his welcoming address to the guests, Ambassador Ivanov emphasized the significance of that day for every Bulgarian while underscoring the role of Bulgarian history and people’s familiarity with, and respect for, that history for the education and upbringing of the young generation.
The program featured patriotic songs and a recital of Bulgarian National Revival poetry by pupils in all grades. There was a competition for scale models of Revival Period edifices, and the winning entries won prizes. The celebration was closed with folk dances performed by the Horotroptzi dance troupe at the Bulgarian Educational Center in Copenhagen.
