A celebration at the Bulgarian School in São Paulo on the 3rd of March kicked off the program of festive events in Brazil marking the National Day of Bulgaria.
On the 4th of March, the Bulgarian Embassy had a reception for the Bulgarian community in Brazil.
In opening the event, Ambassador Valeri Yotov made a retrospective review of the chain of events constituting the Russo-Turkish War, which led to the Liberation of Bulgaria in 1878, and its significance for the political, economic and cultural development of the country and the region. The Ambassador underscored that in its capacity as rotational President of the Council of the EU, Bulgaria is focusing its efforts on strengthening the European perspective of the countries in the Western Balkans as an integral part of the continent of Europe. He went on to point out that the efforts of the Bulgarian Presidency are already yielding fruit in the diplomatic activity being evident in the region, which has reached a multi-year high. He expressed his confidence that the Summit Meeting for the Western Balkans scheduled to be held in Sofia on May 17 of this year would produce new, palpable results in this context.
The National Day of Bulgaria was also celebrated by the Bulgarian community in Colombia.
