Celebrating Bulgaria’s National Day in Portugal
06 March 2018 NewsThe 3rd of March was marked at the Bulgarian Embassy in Portugal with a joint celebration organized by the Embassy and the Sts. Cyril and Methoduis Bulgarian Sunday School in Lisbon. The event was attended by members of the Bulgarian community, the leadership and members of the Sts. Cyril and Methoduis Portuguese-Bulgarian Association, the Bulgarian pupils and their parents.
In his speech, Ambassador Vasilii Takev congratulated the attending fellow nationals and called upon them to stay united, to keep and strengthen their Bulgarian national awareness. He expressed his gratitude to the management and teachers at the Bulgarian Sunday School for their active service in upholding the Bulgarian national spirit, in safeguarding the Bulgarian language and tradition, though so far from the homeland.
The attendees also heard a speech by Rumyana Davidova, the Principal of the Bulgarian Sunday School in Lisbon, who underscored both the importance of the 3rd of March in a historical context, for the restoration of Bulgarian statehood, and its major role for the cohesion and solidarity of Bulgarian communities abroad. She also expressed gratitude on behalf of the school board for the unreserved support the school has been receiving from the Bulgarian Embassy in Portugal.
As part of the festive event marking the occasion, the Bulgarian pupils delivered a diverse cultural program, thus contributing to the celebratory atmosphere.
