03 March 2018 News

An exhibition of photographs of mediaeval manuscripts from the area of the Balkans taken by photographer Ivo Hadjimishev was opened by the Bulgarian Embassy in the hall of the Georgia State Archive on March 1.

The event, dedicated to the National Day of Bulgaria, March 3, was attended by the head of the Georgian Diplomatic Service, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Micheil Janelidze, by Deputy Foreign Minister Vakhtang Makharoblishvili and Justice Minister Thea Tsulukiani of Georgia, by members of the Georgian Parliament and of the Bulgaria-Georgia Friendship Group there. Among the guests were also members of the diplomatic corps in Georgia, representatives of the media, the NGO sector and the Bulgarian community in Georgia.

In her speech, Ambassador Desislava Ivanova told of the restoration of Bulgarian statehood in 1878, while placing an emphasis on the participation of Georgian soldiers and officers in the liberation of Bulgaria.

In his congratulatory address, Micheil Janelidze gave thanks to Bulgaria for its efforts in support of the Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia, and for the steadfast defense of its territorial integrity. He paid considerable attention to the role of the Bulgarian Embassy in Tbilisi for the active and multi-layered promotion of bilateral relations and the work accomplished so far in the area of public diplomacy, simultaneously as the ‘NATO contact embassy’ and Embassy of the Rotational President of the Council of the EU. The Deputy Prime Minister concluded his speech in Bulgarian: ‘Съединението прави силата’ [United We Stand Strong], quoting the motto of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and making a clear reference to the deep roots of that message in the history of Bulgaria.

The young dancers of the Georgian ensemble Nartebi, dressed for the occasion on Bulgarian folk costumes, performed several Bulgarian dances they had specially learned in greeting for the attendees of the event.
