George Georgiev meets in US with the President of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the regional leadership of the American Jewish Committee

Deputy Minister George Georgiev began his working visit to the United States yesterday with meetings at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs (CCGA) and with the regional leadership of the American Jewish Committee.
In his meeting with CCGA President Ivo Daalder, Deputy Minister Georgiev requested his cooperation for Bulgaria’s expedited inclusion in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), which remains a priority in the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and the US.
Georg Georgiev also briefed his host on the key priorities on the agenda of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU. ‘Our Presidency is sending a clear signal to our partners that this country is capable of fulfilling responsibly the commitments that it undertakes,’ he underscored.
Later the same day, the Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister had a meeting with the regional leadership of the American Jewish Committee (AJC).
Speaking to his AJC hosts, Georgiev emphasized his country’s gratitude to the Jewish community for its contribution and support for Bulgaria in the years of its transition to democracy, its accession to NATO and the EU and the deepening of its bilateral dialog with the US. ‘Bulgaria’s active cooperation with the American Jewish community plays an important role for the development of bilateral relations between Bulgaria and the United States, and for promoting practical cooperation between Bulgaria and Israel,’ he also noted.
George Georgiev is on a working visit to the United States until March 7. During that time, he has scheduled meetings with representatives of the local authorities and with members of the Bulgarian communities in Chicago and Cincinnati.
