22 May 2017 News

Within the framework of the Second Rhodes Conference for Security and Stability, which is taking place in Rhodes, Greece, on May 22 and 23, Minister Zaharieva held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Sameh Shoukry.

The two ministers discussed topics of mutual interest in the sphere of bilateral cooperation. They shared their satisfaction with the increase in two-way trade, which topped 700 million US dollars in 2016. The Ministers agreed on strengthening their countries’ interaction in the fight against terrorism, radicalisation, trafficking in human beings, cultural and historic assets, and illegal migration.

Specific measures were outlined for more active cooperation on the basis of the agreements signed. The legal framework of Bulgarian-Egyptian relations was briefly overviewed within this context.

During the session, both sides reaffirmed their desire to invigorate political dialogue at all levels. The invitations to an exchange of visits at the level of minister of foreign affairs were renewed, and Minister Zaharieva expressed the hope that Minister Shoukry would visit Sofia shortly.
