Minister Daniel Mitov hosts meeting of diplomatic corps representatives

01 December 2016 News

Minister of Foreign Affairs Daniel Mitov hosted the traditional annual meeting with representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Republic of Bulgaria. Addressing the diplomats, Minister Mitov briefly overviewed the international developments in 2016 and the current challenges on global scale.

“We have all had a difficult year of persistent and rising security threats, terrorist acts, and waves of immigration, growing political discontent and uncertain economic growth. I believe we all still have sufficient capacity to manage global affairs and resolve the pressing problems at hand,” Minister Mitov said.

He emphasized on Bulgaria’s consistent efforts to resolve the present-day risks and challenges. “Bulgarian foreign policy has responded to this environment of growing uncertainty and risk by focusing on key questions and insisting on and defining longer-term solutions. Indeed, this is the only approach which will allow us to strengthen our collective ability to regulate global affairs and prevent further dislocations,” the chief Bulgarian diplomat said. Minister Mitov underscored that Bulgaria has done its best to make contributions informed by this approach, when it comes to the migrants’ crisis, the overall development of the EU, on the strengthening of NATO, in dealing with the crisis in Ukraine, etc.

The Foreign Minister emphasized the need to move more convincingly from crisis management to sustained, long-term, institutional efforts to deal with risks and threats.
