Minister Daniel Mitov held a meeting today with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic H. E. Dimosthenis Stoidis, who is concluding his diplomatic mission to our country. The talks focused on the results of the joint meeting of the governments of Bulgaria and Greece, the energy projects and the cooperation within the European Union.
The Bulgarian top diplomat and the Greek Ambassador welcomed the active political dialogue between the two neighboring countries, reaffirmed during the meeting between the two governments on 1 August 2016 in Sofia.
"The third joint Bulgarian-Greek High-Level Cooperation Council is a highlight of our bilateral relations", said Minister Daniel Mitov. Bulgaria's Foreign Minister and the Greek Ambassador reaffirmed the willingness of the two countries to implement the goals set out in the joint declaration adopted during the meeting, including in the energy sector and in the deepening of the integration within the European Union.
“The European Union is facing important decisions about its future development and the coordination of our national positions will make us stronger and will guarantee our unity within the Union,” Minister Mitov said. The two diplomats shared the opinion that the implementation of the energy projects is of great economic and strategic importance to both countries and will contribute to the development of the region and of Europe as a whole.
Ambassador Stoidis expressed his country's readiness for cooperation during the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2018, and for promoting the enlargement process and the European perspective of the region.
During the conversation, Minister Daniel Mitov highlighted the contribution of Ambassador Stoidis to the development of the Bulgarian-Greek cooperation and thanked him for the efforts he made throughout his mandate in our country. Minister Mitov and Ambassador Stoidis reaffirmed their commitment to make joint efforts for protecting the EU borders and further deepening the strategic partnership and close cooperation in order to fully realize its potential.
