Current weather conditions in Austria

05 June 2013

After the heavy rains of the past week, five provinces of Austria have been severely affected by floods and landslides of earth and rock. Although the water level in the western part of the country gradually is receding, there are still many villages that remain flooded. The level of the Danube reached critical levels in the province of Lower Austria, in the Vienna part of the island on the Danube, and coastal facilities are flooded. Many roads throughout the country remain closed. Flooding of railways can cause significant delays and deviations from trainschedules. Travellers are advised to postpone their trips to a later time in the affected parts of the country and to keep themselves informed of travel conditions.

At this time, the Embassy has no information that Bulgarian citizens have been injured.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs repeats it call to not travel in the affected parts of the country, to monitor announcements about the current situation on the ground and to follow the instructions of local authorities.

If necessary, Bulgarian citizens can seek assistance from the Embassy of Bulgaria in Vienna.
