The situation in Austria after the heavy rainfall

03 June 2013

Because of heavy rains in the past week, many regions of Austria are flooded. In several municipalities, mainly in Lower Austria, emergencies have been declared.

In all affected areas, the involvement of the police, firefighting and military forces in assisting the population has been stepped up.

Currently, more than 100 roads remain closed because of flooding, including major road links such as the B311, B3 and a large part of the B164.

Bulgarian citizens are urged not to travel in the affected parts of the country, to monitor reports on the current situation on the ground, and to follow the instructions of local authorities. The Bulgarian Embassy has received no information so far about Bulgarian citizens being affected.
