Bulgaria will support Albania on its path towards the EU

23 March 2015 News

Bulgaria and Albania have traditionally good relations and should actively work for their development and expansion in all spheres of mutual interest, agreed today Minister Daniel Mitov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Albania to Sofia Qirjako Kureta.

During the talks Minister Mitov focused on two important bilateral issues- the forthcoming signing of a Memorandum on Cooperation in the field of European integration between Bulgaria and Albania and the SEECP Presidency, which Bulgaria will take over in July 2015.

"Bulgaria supports the European integration of Albania and is ready to share its experience and expertise in this area," said Minister Mitov. Ambassador Kureta thanked for Bulgaria’s support for the reforms and the European integration of his country, adding that this is a main priority in the Albanian foreign policy. "It would be better for the whole Western Balkan region to move forward on the path of European reforms and the EU," he said.

The Foreign Minister gave a positive assessment of Albania’s initiatives as SEECP Chairman and said that Bulgaria will continue to develop some of them during its Chairmainship-in-Office. We look forward to joint actions in the preparation of the Bulgarian Chairmanship, pointed out Daniel Mitov.

Bulgaria is a friendly country and we are connected by historical, cultural and economic ties, said Ambassador Kureta, adding that the good political relations give scope for even stronger presence of  the Bulgarian business in Albania. Minister Mitov and Ambassador Kureta underscored the intensive dialogue at the highest political level in recent years and agreed on a visit of the Albanian Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati to Sofia.
